Ray was up on the roof, his arms wrapped around him as the biting wind blew around him, chilling him to the bone. He had just treated a victim of domestic abuse, the womans husband using her as a punching bag. Of course she had denied it the moment he had shown up, and that in itsefl made Ray feel sick.
The case brought back to many bad memories of things which he rather he forgot. Leaning on the rails, Ray shivered as the wind cut through his scrubs, which weren't really keeping him warm at all.
He had come up here to clear his head, but upon hearing the door to the roof opening, Ray knew that wasn't going to happen. He didn't turn his head to see who it was.

Neela pushed through the door in frustration, still clad in trauma gown and gloves. She tore them off, despite the frigid Chicago temperatures, throwing them at her feet.

( OOC - Neela, could you write a little more in your posts to make it easier to reply to! )
Ray turned his head slightly and saw that the intruder was none other than Neela Rasgotra. Turning his head back to face out, his body still bent over as he leaned on the railings, Ray said,

ooc: no problem
"Some days, I don't even know why I like this job or what the hell I'm doing in a place like this. I swear I've seen more death than any person should ever have to. How sick and twisted is that?" she asked, not nessicarily to him, but rather just to get it out.
She chased after her trauma gown that had been picked up by the winds that had begun intensify

Ray listened to her, and nodded his head, not looking at her, and not verbally replying to her comment, knowing that was all it was, a comment that she was making to vent how she was feeling.
Turning his head when he heard footsteps, Ray laughed a little when he saw Neela chasing after her trauma gown, and jogged over to where it had been blown to, picked it up and handed it to the woman in front of him.
Shivering, Ray asked Neela,
'What are you doin' up here anyway? It's freezing!'

She laughed some. "It was either here or the ambulance bay. I sort of figured I had a better chance of being alone." The moment she said it she regretted it. She hoped she hadn't offended him. "You don't have to leave though, now that I'm here I'm glad to have a bit of company." she smiled

Ray looked at Neela with a small, sad smile on his face as he leaned against the railing and said in a softer voice, not his usual cheery, upbeat tone,
'I get what you mean...just need to clear your head sometimes'

She nodded. "It's good to know I'm not the only one. Mind if I ask a rather personal question?" she asked, looking up at him. "You don't have to share anything you don't want to, but if it helps, I'll answer any question you ask..."
Re: Clearing Your Head « Reply #8 on Feb 2, 2008, 9:48pm »
Ray wasn't sure how personal the question was going to be, and he didn't really like spreading his private life around everyone that he came in contact with. Although, the only way to find out was to agree.
Smiling at Neela, Ray wrapped his arms around himself to try and keep the heat in his body, and said,

"My time at Jumbomart really made me think about things like this. Why did you become a doctor? I often wonder why I chose this for myself, I can't even answer the question." to be honest, she was curious as to why a guy like him, a musican, kind of a punk, wanted to do something so...big.

Ray didn't see that one coming, he was hoping that maybe it was just something simple, like, hey Ray, why do you prefer, cats or dogs? But no, she had to ask that question.
Running a nervous hand through his hair, causing it to spike up a little more than usual, the way which Kerry had specificaly told him not to, Ray furrowed his brow as he thought.
Looking at Neela, he said,
'I wanted to...I guess...' Ray sighed as he tried to think of the best way to answer the question without really answering the question...but found no other ways.
Looking at Neela, a pain in his eyes that he usually kept hidden, Ray said,
'My dad, he was...not really a great dad, and he caused alot of nuts...I guess I just wanted to do something that proved that I wasn't like him'

"I'm sorry," she said, looking away. She hadn't really expected that, especially coming from someone she always knew to be the total opposite of serious and reserved. "If it helps any, I think you're doing a good job..."
Re: Clearing Your Head « Reply #12 on Feb 2, 2008, 10:26pm »
Ray saw how she had looked away, and that action reminded him exactly why he kept his personal life to himself...it pushed people away.
"If it helps any, I think you're doing a good job..."
Looking at his feet for a moment before meeting her eyes again, Ray said,
'Thanks..so are you.' Pausing for a moment, a shiver wracked his form, causing him to wrap his arms tighter around himself, why didn't he bring a coat?
'And ya don't have to say sorry...you didn't do anything, he's just an idiot and always will be'

She nodded. "If you, well, if you ever want to talk about it..." she said, finally looking up and meeting his gaze. She thought it was the least she could do, to let him know that he hadn't just shared something so personal for nothing. He'd always been so kind to her, and she might as well return the favor

"We should probably head back in. I don't know about you, but I'm sure Weaver's gonna flip when she finds I've been on a break not specified in my contract." she laughed, her breath visible in the cold air. She headed for the door, turning to see if he'd follow
Re: Clearing Your Head « Reply #16 on Feb 5, 2008, 12:02am »
Ray wanted to laugh, but knew better. Neela was always following the rules, and, unlike him, didn't ever seem to want to break them. But after the day he had just had, he figured getting a telling to by Weaver, something which happened on a daily basis, wasn't really too bad of a consequence for getting to just spend some time to clear his head, away from all of the hustle and bustle of the ER.
Leaning back on the railing, his arms crossed over his chest, Ray shook his head slightly at Neela as he said,
'She flips all the time...and I couldn't care less today' Rays voice had a saddened tone to it, something which he tried to hide, but failed to.
Offering Neela a small smile, he said with a forced happiness,
'But you go ahead...don't wanna get ya into any trouble'

"You'll freeze out here you know, but suit yourself." she said, crossing her arms in front of her chest. "If anyone asks, I never saw you. I have no clue where you are, what you're doing, or when you'll be back. If that anyone happens to be Weaver...I dunno, I'll come up with something." she laughed
Re: Clearing Your Head « Reply #18 on Feb 5, 2008, 5:38pm »
Ray laughed a little,if she could be so sweet, what the hell was she doing talking to him for then? He was bound just to get her in trouble...one way or another.
'You don't have to stick up for me...I'm a big boy Neela, I'll be fine.'
He was going to add a little cold never hurt anyone, but he was a doctor and knew too well that it could.

"Like I said, suit yourself." she said, flashing one last smile his way before pulling open the heavy door and disappearing into the warmth of County General
Re: Clearing Your Head « Reply #20 on Feb 6, 2008, 6:17pm »
Ray shrugged his shoulders as the door shut. He felt a shiver run through him, and guessed it wasn't just from the cold. He felt a bit bad for just leaving her on her own after she had been so kind to him.
Jogging over to the door, Ray swung it open, and ran down a few of the stairs, until he had caught up with Neela. Flashing her one of his famous smiles, he joked,

ooc: should we move this to another place considering they are no longer on the roof?
"Had a change of heart?" she asked, giving him a nudge. "You'll be glad you did. The sooner you finish up here, the sooner you can leave. Then you can live your duel life as a rock and roll star" she laughed

Ray laughed at Neela's joke, his double life something that some of the other doctors couldn't really understand. They didn't know how he could be committed to both, and not one more than the other. But Ray was going to prove that he was and he could do both.
'Yeah...back to that terrible life of groupies and beer and...God, I don't know why I do it' Ray joked, smiling at Neela as they decended the stairs.
